Guardian Angels offer reward in immigrant murder
The Guardian Angels are offering a $10,000 reward for information about the murder of an illegal Guatemalan immigrant in Bedford.
Rene Perez was found April 28 on a deserted part of Byram Lake Road and died shortly after from abdomen injuries. Fernando Mateo, president of Hispanics Across America, joined members of the Guardian Angels to announce the reward. Mateo says he hopes the reward will encourage someone to come forward. In 2003, Santos Bojorguez was found strangled in Mount Kisco. In June of 2004, Roberto Martinez was also found strangled. Mateo says solving Perez?s murder could help in solving these cases.
Mateo says two other Guatemalans, Carlos Rodriguez who was found dead in Bedford Village Park in 2003 and Jose Manuel Soto who died in 2000 in Mount Kisco, were also probably murdered.
However, a spokesperson for the Westchester District Attorney?s Office says, ?His conclusions are not supported by evidence. The fact is neither of these cases is classified as homicides.? The DA?s office says it has no plans to reopen the Rodriguez and Soto cases.
