Developmentally disabled people living in group homes have been given the greenlight for home visits after months of being apart due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There are requirements and precautions every family must follow, including social distancing and wearing a mask.
The guidelines were put out on July 10 by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities.
Hudson Valley families told News 12 they were ecstatic to once again spend quality time with their children.
"I'm glad he’s home. He's happy and he's got his personality back and he's him," said Geri Pierri, of Newburgh, speaking about her son Alec.
The Republican candidate for the 18th Congressional District, Chele Farley, is also eager to bring her son, Connor, home.
"I think it's so important for people to realize that families are essential…being able to get him home will be fantastic," she said.
