Group calls on feds to take over Bedford murder probe
Hispanic leaders rallied in Manhattan Monday, calling for federal prosecutors to completely take over the murder investigation of an illegal immigrant in Bedford. The advocacy group Hispanics Across America met with the U.S. Attorney?s office. They want a federal investigation into the death of Rene Perez, an immigrant found dead on Byram Lake Road in Bedford on April 29. The group members say they believe Perez?s death and two others may be linked to the Mount Kisco Police Department, which is currently investigating the incident. Three Mount Kisco police officers were reportedly the last to see Perez the night he died. No charges have been filed against any of the officers, but they have been put on desk duty. The Guardian Angels teamed up with Hispanics Across America to hand out fliers Monday at Mount Kisco's Metro-North train station. The Guardian Angels say it's important to find out what happened to Rene Perez.
