Graphic sex education pamphlets prompt outrage
Some parents were outraged after graphic sex education pamphlets were handed out to Irvington Middle School students.
The county health department apparently gave students material during a wellness fair that many parents feel was sexually inappropriate for children in sixth to eighth grades. One pamphlet reportedly focused on how lesbians can protect themselves against sexually transmitted diseases. Another showed graphic illustrations of what sexually transmitted diseases can do to male genitalia. When parents began complaining, school officials sent out a letter of apology, saying not all the material was available to be checked before the fair. Officials added in the future, nothing would be handed out before being previewed.
