A Scarsdale family is warning other families after they say an incident at their grandson’s former day care left him without part of his finger.
Tom and Nancy Blank got a call from their daughter-in-law on Dec. 11 to pick up their 21-month-old grandson, Max, from the Learning Experience in Dobbs Ferry.
According to the day care's accident report, a door shut on Max's finger. His family says what really happened was much worse.

Tom Blank said when his wife went to put Max in the car outside the day care center, she removed the paper towel to look at it and that's when they knew it was serious.  He says she was looking at the exposed bone on his finger.

The grandparents sprang into action. Max's parents, who work in Manhattan, rushed to White Plains Hospital, where doctors worked quickly to reattach the tip of his pinky.

A spokesperson from the day care said in part that they are working with state regulators to resolve outstanding concerns.
The supervisor in charge the day of Max's injury has been terminated.
Max now stays at home with his grandparents.

“When you look at the number of violations that were at this particular facility, as well as other facilities, parents have to make choices and at least they should have as much historical information as they can to make a prudent and beneficial decision for their children,” says Blank.
