A Long Island grandmother visiting her daughter inside Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women says multiple inmates are telling her the nursery – where children visit their mothers -  isn't equipped with air conditioning.
"A few girls told me today it's sweltering down there where these children are," said Donna Caggiano, who was visiting her daughter and 7-month-old granddaughter Tuesday at the facility.
Caggiano says she is concerned about her granddaughter and the 12 other babies inside the nursery amid the heat wave.
Sources say that air conditioning in the day room, where the mothers and babies visit along with their families, malfunctioned Friday and a part has been ordered.  The source says temporary air conditioning has been brought in to cool the area.
A spokesperson for the state Department of Corrections tells News 12 that two AC units have been brought in to cool what is called the house block, which includes the nursery and the day room.
Caggiano says she has not been inside the nursery, but what she is hearing has convinced her there is a problem.
