Nassau County residents are preparing for a softball tournament being held at the Baldwin Park Ballfield this weekend.
A Grand Slam for Heroes will honor Wilbert Mora and Jason Rivera, the two NYPD detectives killed in the line of duty in January.
It will also recognize all police officers who have died or have been injured while working on the frontlines.
"The Town of Hempstead always stands with the men and women that wear the uniform," says Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder. "So we thank them for what they give back to us."
The fundraiser's main event will have the NYPD face off against the UK Royal Air Force in an exhibition softball game.
