Some trendy new apartments are open for rent in Mount Vernon in part of the revitalization of the city.
The site of the new apartments was once an Avis rental car building, but after $40 million, the building has been transformed into The Modern.
The grand opening was held Thursday for the affordable housing rentals and apartments.
News 12 is told all the apartments are occupied by those with special needs and families making $65,000 or less.
The project was part of the revitalization of the city of Mount Vernon West transit district.
One resident of the new building told News 12 the apartment changed his life.
"It's unbelievable. The floor is amazing. Kitchen elegant. Two bedroom, two baths. I have one of the best apartments in Westchester," says Gary Rivera.
Maquesten Development, who spearheaded the project, says that this is only the beginning for this city and there are many more projects ahead to keep building it up.
