Gov. Kathy Hochul is taking action to strengthen reproductive rights in New York.
She plans to stockpile a five-year supply of the abortion medication misoprostol to meet anticipated needs.
She says she's also introducing new legislation to protect abortion providers and to require medical insurers to cover medication abortion.
Her actions come in the wake of a Texas federal judge's ruling to suspend the approval of an abortion pill, mifepristone.
The governor says if the pill is taken off the market, the state will commit up to an additional $20 million to providers to support access to other methods of care.
