Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed three new measures to make it easier for New York residents to vote on Election Day.

The first measure allows anyone to request an absentee ballot if they are afraid to go to a polling place because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The second allows residents to request an absentee ballot immediately, so there is enough time to get it in.

The final measure allows ballots to be postmarked on Election Day in order to be counted.

Election officials say this is likely to cause a surge in mail-in votes in November.

President Donald Trump has called into question the US Postal Service's ability to handle mail-in ballots.
