At a press briefing at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that total COVID-19-related hospitalizations were down to just over 8,000 patients.
“I feel for the first time, we're actually ahead of it,” said the governor. “We have showed that we can control the beast and look at those numbers coming down."
At his press briefing, Gov. Cuomo also spoke about the devastating economic impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on hundreds of thousands of out-of-work New Yorkers. He touted the measures the state has taken to help people during these challenging times, including rent relief measures put in place until Aug. 20.
“I think is a significant point. Nobody can be evicted from their home. We're providing food assistance, in a number of different ways," said Gov. Cuomo.
