A White Plains woman made sure her chance find of a check worth thousands this week had a happy ending.
Barbara Minton says she found the $44,000 cashier's check made out to cash stuck under her shoe while walking on Main Street Wednesday.
She then went to Citibank across the street to return the money. She quickly found the rightful owner there desperately searching for his money.
The reversal of fortunes quickly brought tears to the man's eyes. The money was going toward a payment on a new house.
"I walk up to the teller and I said, 'Look what I found stuck to my shoe,'" says Minton. "And she said, 'This man is looking for that.' But the young man was crying, he was so desperate and so afraid, and then he got it back. He was very happy, but sometimes when you're happy, you cry."
