Thousands of people participated in a walk Sunday to help patients at a Westchester County hospital.
Three healthy patients from Maria Fareri Children's Hospital led the annual Go The Distance Walk, the hospital’s largest annual fundraiser.
Armani Curet, 12, was one of the patient’s leading the walk. About two years ago, Curet was diagnosed with a rare condition that tangles abnormal blood vessels in the brain, which can lead to stroke-like symptoms. He was taken into surgery at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital within a matter of days of his diagnosis.
His mother, Maria Negron, says it was her worse nightmare.
"Not knowing whether he would be able to walk again. There was even signs of blindness,” she says.
Thanks to the staff at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital, his surgery was successful.
