Garner protests erupt for 2nd straight night
Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across the city and the country for a second straight night over the Eric Garner grand jury decision.
Protesters say justice has not been served following the failed indictment Wednesday of NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo, who was accused of putting the Staten Island dad in an apparent chokehold during an arrest that resulted in his death back in July.
Pantaleo issued an apology to the family after finding out that he would not face criminal charges. Garner's loved ones say the apology is not accepted and should have come months earlier.
The rallies have been passionate, but largely peaceful, with some people simply lying in the streets in silence. Hundreds of others stormed the Brooklyn Bridge, shouting for justice with their hands raised and chanting "I can't breathe."
The NYPD says more than 200 people were arrested Thursday night, bringing the total number of arrests up to nearly 300.
The protests are expected to continue for a third day. Mayor Bill de Blasio is reminding everyone to remain peaceful and not slander Garner's name with vandalism.
