Gang urged to 'take over New Roc' on Web, cops say
Police in New Rochelle have released new information on the Easter Sunday riot at New Roc City.
According to police, a Bronx street gang used the Internet to urge its members and their friends to "take over New Roc." Police say there were as many as 2,500 teenagers at the entertainment complex when the overcrowding spun out of control around 8 p.m. They say the first shots were fired at 9:05 p.m., although no one was hit by bullets.
The teens were ushered to the Metro-North station where a 16-year-old was seriously injured. Police say the teen eventually needed surgery at Westchester Medical Center to remove a blood clot outside his brain. It wasn?t until 10:30 p.m. that the scene was finally under control.
Police arrested six teens and three people were injured in the melee. New Rochelle officials have been working on a new security plan for New Roc City and are expected to announce the changes Friday.
