Funeral home owner accused of stealing from pre-paid funeral accounts

Police say Leonard Scarr, owner of Scarr Funeral Home in Suffern, presented forged death certificates to the bank.

A funeral home owner from Warwick is accused of stealing money from three pre-paid funeral accounts.
Police say Leonard Scarr, 53, owner of Scarr Funeral Home in Suffern, presented forged death certificates to the bank, and the checks were then deposited into the funeral home's account.
The money inside the accounts was set up to be paid for funeral services when the account holder dies. Those three people, were in fact, still alive.

Scarr was arraigned on numerous charges, including grand larceny and forgery.
He was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Justice Court and released on his own recognizance.
