Family, friends, community members and politicians bid a final farewell to a beloved Westchester County town supervisor Monday morning.
Jack Lombardi served as town supervisor of North Castle for 44 years before he stepped down in 2006, making him the town's longest-serving supervisor. He died Friday at the age of 83.
?Jack was the kind of person who really cared about the people,? Congresswoman Nita Lowey said. ?[He was] totally dedicated to the community.?
Before stepping down from his position, Lombardi was credited with bringing several large corporate headquarters to North Castle, including IBM, which was based in Armonk.
Lombardi had been ill for several months, but those close to him say his condition began to seriously deteriorate a few weeks prior to his death.
The funeral for Lombardi was held at the Holy Name of Jesus Church in Valhalla. After the Mass, Lombardi?s body was taken to the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, where he was laid to rest.
