The Yorktown Heights community came together Saturday to help the family of an NYPD officer who was shot and killed in the Bronx last month.
A fashion fundraiser was held to help the family of Officer Miosotis Familia. As News 12 has reported, Familia was fatally shot while sitting in a mobile command post in the Bronx.
Lin-Marie Colon says her husband - also a police officer - graduated in the same class as Familia, and the two had previously worked together in the 46th Precinct.
Colon sells LuLaRoe clothing and got together with other local retailers to sell their clothes at Grace Lutheran Church to help raise money for Familia's three children.
News 12 is told LuLaRoe is going to match every $100 made at Saturday's event.
The NYPD posthumously promoted Officer Familia to detective. She is the first woman in the department to die in the line of duty since the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
