Funding paving the way for family friendly park in Blue Point

New funding is paving the way for a family friendly park in Blue Point.

The state is now pumping $500,000 to turn an empty lot of Park Street into a park.
The property has had different uses over the years. It was once the site of a laundromat, and then a parking garage.
Jason Borowski, of the Blue Point Community Coalition, says the last time the property was used commercially was probably in the 1970s.

Borowski says the park will have features like a path that circles the whole area.

"There's a playground and a sport court. So things like deck hockey, basketball -- things that are not currently available in the community, which is great,” he says.

Work on the park is expected to start in the spring.
