Trash is piling up on the sidewalks of Mount Vernon as frustration builds among community members who say they have had enough.
Mayor Richard Thomas insists they don't have oil to run the garbage trucks because the bills haven't been paid. Thomas blames the comptroller and the City Council. They blame him.
The impasse over bills at City Hall has other city vendors speaking about their unpaid bills. Tom Ciminello, who owns equipment company Tomcon, wrote to News 12 saying in part, "It is very frustrating to not get paid on invoices for equipment rentals that were always paid in the past. Whoever is at fault at City Hall should realize that businesses whether large or small have bills to pay also."
Residents say they are hoping city leaders come together and collect the trash, and hope that a tweet from Thomas, which promises trash pickup on Wednesday, holds true.
