Tenants of a Mount Vernon apartment complex picketed Wednesday over what they call deplorable living conditions and problems with the building?s management.
Residents of the Levister Towers complex, at 231 South Ninth Ave., complain of heating problems, rodents, broken appliances and malfunctioning elevators. Despite their claims of numerous problems, they say it is difficult getting answers from management. They say after months of having their complaints unanswered, they decided to wait for management to arrive and get their attention.
The group of tenants mobbed one of the managers as she entered the building. Security had to escort her inside. Mount Vernon police were also called to the scene.
Tenants say rodents run rampant through their apartments, their ovens don?t work and that a toddler broke her finger in a faulty elevator door. They say they have to go to bed at night fully clothed because it?s so cold in their apartments.
News 12 Westchester reached out to management, who had no comment.
