Former Wallkill pediatrician Dr. Daniel O’Hern accused of possessing child pornography
A pediatrician who used to practice medicine in Middletown was arrested Tuesday morning on child pornography charges.
Federal agents executed a search warrant at Dr. Daniel O'Hern's Cape Cod home, where they uncovered emails and graphic images of underage girls. During a search of numerous digital devices, authorities say they found close to 50 files, from videos to pictures, that featured sexually exploited teen girls.
According to court documents, the search was conducted after an investigation into the use of peer-to-peer file sharing programs. It's the same program that initiated Operation Caireen last month, netting 71 people across New York, beginning with former Mount Pleasant Police Chief Brian Fanelli.
Reports say O'Hern, 64, once lived in Goshen and practiced in the Middletown-Wallkill area for more than 30 years. He retired in 2011. He is a divorced father of two adult children.
Reports say he was employed part-time at Crystal Run Healthcare with patients following him from his former practice. He has also authored a book for parents.
A representative for Crystal Run Healthcare said they are shocked and saddened to hear of the accusations.
O'Hern was charged with possessing and distributing child pornography. He remains in custody in Boston until his next court appearance.
If convicted, O'Hern could spend up to 30 years in prison.
