Jim Bostic, a former NBA player and the executive director of Yonkers’ Nepperhan Community Center, is voicing support for the NBA game postponement in the wake of the Jacob Blake shooting.

Bostic was drafted in 1975 by the Kansas City Kings in the eighth round. The former player says it’s a necessary move to bring attention to the police shootings of Black men.

“If it takes professional athletes saying we are not going to entertain you while our young brothers are getting shot and killed on the street corners, I support that,” says Bostic.

He recalls a time where he was pulled over and experienced discrimination by police as a college student, saying in part, “Next thing I know there was a shotgun in my mouth…I have never been more afraid of anything in my life.”

Bostic further went on to say there is no place for discrimination in America, and he hopes leaders will listen and take action.

Three games were postponed Thursday after professional sports nearly came to a halt on Wednesday night in support of Jacob Blake.

It is unclear when the NBA games will resume, but players are continuing to speak out in solidarity.
