Former Mt. Vernon mayor announces candidacy
A former Mount Vernon mayor is vying to win back his old seat in a rematch of the 2007 and 2011 elections.
Clinton Young, the Democrat who lost his seat to current incumbent and fellow party member Ernie Davis, announced his campaign at the city's Memorial Field Saturday. He is the latest to join a crowded primary race, which now includes six candidates.
Young, who had secured $12 million to renovate the same field when he unseated then-incumbent Davis in 2007, lost the seat back to Davis four years later.
The field's renovation never occurred, a sign Young says of inefficiency on the part of Davis.
Davis says he scrapped Young's plan for the site because it was not architecturally feasible.
