A former Yonkers school superintendent has been sentenced to six years in prison after his conviction on federal corruption charges in Maryland.
Dr. Andre Hornsby, who was superintendent of Prince George County schools in Maryland, was found guilty of wire fraud, witness and evidence tampering and obstruction of justice in July.
The convictions arose from an alleged scheme that would have allowed Hornsby and his acquaintances to benefit from certain school contracts. Hornsby initially faced 22 charges. A federal jury acquitted him of two charges and deadlocked on 14.
Hornsby took the Maryland position in 2003 after he was fired from Yonkers public schools in 2000. That firing was due to a rift with the mayor.
AP wire services were used in this report.
