Ford Motors has released new software it says can "neutralize the COVID-19" virus inside police cruisers.
The engine heats up the car's interior to 133 degrees for 15 minutes - with the push of a button.
Ford says the heat reduces "the viral concentration by greater than 99%" on interior surfaces.
The pilot program is only available for Ford's Interceptor police cars.
Depending on the results, it may expand it to all Ford police models.

With 600 officers and over 100 vehicles under his wing, the Yonkers police commissioner is now working on securing this software for his department.

"We have three shifts every 24 hours, multiple officers using it so this is going to be a great tool for us to use going forward. It's a great advancement," says Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller.
News 12 reached out to a few other departments about the software.
As of now, New York State Police have no plans of retrofitting vehicles. Poughkeepsie police are still looking into it.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles issued the following statement: “Thermal control is just one feature we are looking at to improve cabin conditions. Our materials engineering group is also investigating virus- and bacteria-resistant surfaces.”
