The proliferation of mass shootings in America has again sparked demands for "common-sense" gun control.

The massacre at a high school in Parkland, Florida, is the 18th school shooting of 2018. Authorities say suspect Nikolas Cruz, 19, has been charged with 17 counts of murder in the shooting.

Parkland joins a growing list of communities devastated by shooters armed with AR-15 rifles.

A mother made a plea to the president after her 14-year-old daughter was killed during the shooting.

"President Trump, you say what can you do? You could stop the guns from getting into these children's hands,” said Lori Alhadeff.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer is also condemning the violence after recently placing a permanent ban on gun shows on county properties.

“They get their hands on one of these weapons, and you can’t glorify them,” said Latimer.

The NRA calls the AR-15  “America's most popular rifle.” It has been used by the gunmen in the mass shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Sutherland Springs, Texas.
