Flooding across the Hudson Valley has receded, but thousands of homes and businesses will be dealing with the damage for weeks, and perhaps months.

Mamaroneck was one of the hardest hit areas from Friday's devastating rain, and while all roads reopened over the weekend, it will be some time before everyone has recovered.

The recurring nature of flooding in Mamaroneck, compounded by the aftermath of Hurricane Ida two years ago, highlights the persistent challenges faced by residents and business owners.

Businesses and residences in the downtown area suffered inundation as both the Sheldrake and Mamaroneck rivers overflowed during Friday's storm. Understandably, residents are frustrated with the recurring, costly flood damage.

Ricardo Linares, owner of La Esquina Salvadoreña, voiced his concerns: "That's the issue. They have money, like $100 million, to fix the problem and they never did it. They never did anything and we keep suffering."

The Red Cross extended assistance to approximately a dozen individuals, establishing a temporary shelter at the high school, which was later relocated to the pavilion.
