Fireworks to blame for Montgomery plant blast
Two workers of a Montgomery recycling plant are in the hospital after a freak explosion on the job.
Representatives of the Taylor Recycling Facility say they felt the vibrations of the explosion from hundreds of feet away Friday. CEO James Taylor says fireworks in a box exploded when it went through the plant?s debris grinder. Taylor says the fireworks, which look like 2-inch wide golf balls, were placed into the plant's drop-off dumpsters.
Officials are checking surveillance video to see who was responsible for dropping off the fireworks. Employees are carefully examining all the waste they received last week. They say so far they have found at least 30 additional fireworks. The incident is now being investigated by state police and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.
