Fires in Suffern deemed suspicious
Two separate fires at an apartment complex in Suffern have fire investigators on high alert.
The original fire at an apartment complex at 156 Wayne Ave. began in the basement of the 16-unit building around 7 p.m. yesterday. Crews were able to put it out in about 20 minutes.
Firefighters were called back to the complex at about 2 a.m. today to fight another blaze. Earlier reports of the first fire reigniting proved to be erroneous since the second fire was in a completely different location on the other side of the complex.
Crews once again were able to quickly put the flames out, but there was significant damage to the building.
Tenants say they're relieved everyone escaped unharmed, but 25 residents were displaced.
There is no word yet on what sparked either fire or if the two fires are related.
