Firefighters killed on 9/11 memorialized in Rockland
A dedication ceremony was held at the Rockland Fire Training Center Saturday to honor 21 firefighters killed on September 11th.
Andrew Fredericks, of Suffern, was a FDNY lieutenant and an instructor at the fire center. Fredericks was known all over the country for articles he wrote about firefighting and the knowledge he shared at the training center.
Hundreds watched the unveiling of a six-foot tall bronze statue of Fredericks. It captures the essence of a 40-year-old man who died trying to save others as the World Trade Center came crashing down. Friends and family say the lessons Fredericks shared through his work likely saved the lives of other firefighters and helpless victims trapped by fires.
Plaques were unveiled to honor the other 20 firefighters from Rockland killed on 9/11.
