At least seven people had to flee a fire at a duplex in Hillcrest overnight
Fire officials say the call came around 2 a.m. about a house fire in 12 Ibeck Court. They say four adults and three children from both sides of the duplex got out safely, but one firefighter was treated and released from a hospital because of heat exhaustion.
Hillcrest Fire Chief Frank Youngman told News 12 the fire started on the deck of the wood frame house and that the roof of the home partially collapsed into the second floor.
The Hillcrest Fire Department received assistance from firefighters from Spring Valley, Monsey, Nanuet and New City.
As fire investigators continue to work to figure out what sparked the blaze, the Red Cross will be helping these families with the emotional and physical support they need.
