Firefighters say a 100-foot-tall tree came crashing down on Vesta Place in Yonkers and trapped people, including twin toddlers, inside their homes.
The tree became entangled in power lines, blocking doorways and panicking parents.
Neighbors of the Maydon family allowed them to climb their fence into their yard, where they were reunited with their young children.
Their mother, Kelly Maydon, says the tree had always worried her, and she had asked the city about removing it.
Maydon says she thinks the block has been ignored because it’s located in a small, quiet area – but she says she hopes this accident can inspire change.
