An auto shop in Rockland County was badly damaged after a fast-moving fire overnight.
Fire officials say flames broke out just before 3 a.m. today inside the repair area of the Hillcrest Service Center on Route 45. Luckily, the firehouse is just a few doors away, but it still took about 50 firefighters 40 minutes to get it all under control.
Firefighters say the blaze was so hot that glass and metal in and outside the shop on North Main Street was melted and twisted. Investigators say explosions could also be heard as everything inside from tires, tools, gasoline and more caught fire.
There were at least three cars inside the building that are now destroyed, and some cars parked outside were also damaged. A small tractor and boat in the back of the building were also both heavily damaged.
No injuries have been reported.
