A popular Yorktown bar was destroyed after a fire ripped through the pub early Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called in around 1 a.m. to battle the flames at The Sand Bar on East Main Street. Firefighters say heavy smoke and flames were coming from the back of the building upon their arrival. They returned later in the morning to check for hot spots after steam was seen coming from inside. Investigators say they think the fire started in the kitchen.
The pub is a favorite hangout among locals. It is also a place customers go to see bands perform. Residents say they hope the owner rebuilds. Fire officials say it looks like the fire was accidental, but they still need to finish their investigation.
