A two-story home on South Lane went up in flames Friday morning.
Mona Jean was asleep in her home when she woke to the smell of smoke and discovered that her house was on fire. Jean ran to a neighbor?s home where she was able to call the fire department.
Fifty firefighters from Somers and surrounding departments responded to the fire, which was made more complicated because there were no fire hydrants available to help fight the flames. The fire department dispatched tankers that hold water which they then transferred into temporary pools so water would be readily available.
Assistant Fire Chief Bob Totten said there were no injures at the scene. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
