Fire engulfs apartment building in White Plains
Fire engulfed an apartment building in White Plains overnight, but all of the residents were able to escape.
The fire broke out in a fourth-floor apartment on Franklin Avenue around 2 a.m. Saturday.
"The flames wouldn't go out, it was a stubborn fire even though they soaked the apartment, you could still see orange flames in there," said Carl Abate, of White Plains.
White Plains Deputy Fire Chief Timothy Ryan said that was because of all the debris in the apartment.
"It made it challenging to get into the apartment and actually get to the deep seat of the fire," said Ryan.
Firefighters were able to get the flames under control.
The apartment sustained most of the damage, but there was minor damage to surrounding units.
It’s unclear how many residents have been displaced.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
