Fire departments were busy battling two separate fires in Bedford Hills and Ossining.
Firefighters from five different departments were called to a house fire in Bedford Hills around 8 p.m. Friday. Fire officials say a nanny and two young children who were home at the time got out safely. Investigators say the fire started in a bedroom and spread quickly. The fire was ruled accidental.
Also, a popular Portuguese restaurant went up in flames just after 7 p.m. Friday. The fire destroyed the restaurant and four apartments upstairs. Fire officials say it started because of a malfunctioning exhaust system. It took 125 firefighters and nine response units more than three hours to control the fire. The building inspector is coming Monday to assess the damage to the Ossining building.
