Members of the Pelham community came out to Glover Field Saturday to support their neighbor in his fight to raise awareness for Lou Gehrig’s disease.

For the past 12 years, the Pelham community has taken part in the annual Strike Out ALS Softball Tournament. This year, however, was a little more special than usual.

Anthony Senerchia was diagnosed with ALS 14 years ago. Now, the former football player can no longer walk or talk. Since his diagnosis, he and his family have founded Senerchia’s Foundation, with the goal of fundraising to help other families struggling with the disease and contribute to research for a cure.

This year, Senerchia was made an honorary member of the Pelham Fire Department - local firefighters retired badge 44 in Senerchia’s honor.

They’ve also presented Anthony’s foundation with a check for $10,000.
