A fire broke out at a popular diner on Route 6 in Mahopac.
Nearly two dozen customers were evacuated when an odor of smoke was detected in the Olympic Diner Saturday afternoon.
Nick Tsakonitis, who has owned the restaurant for 35 years, says the damage was confined to the kitchen. He thinks it will cost him $100,000 in repairs and lost business.
It took firefighters 90 minutes to battle the blaze.
A similar fire broke out behind the walls on the opposite side of the kitchen in 1996.
Investigators are determining the official cause of the fire, and health officials say they need to inspect the diner before it can reopen.
Tsakonitis is hoping to be open again in about a week.

No one was hurt in the blaze.
