The curtain fell for one last time Sunday night on Broadway's longest running show, "The Phantom of the Opera."

The beloved musical closed after 35 years on The Great White Way.

The closing performance saw the return of many former cast members and a unique moment: The original leading lady in the role "Christine," Sarah Brightman, alongside Emilie Kouatchou, the last to play the role on Broadway.

"It does feel a little bit surreal 'cause I don't think it should be closing," Brightman said. "I think that the people just connect with it because, first of all, it was written with a lot of love and passion from inception, and it's a very spiritual piece."

"I just take it in and really think about the words and try not to cry," Kouatchou said when asked how she felt about portraying "Christine" one last time on Broadway.

"Phantom" opened in 1988 and played nearly 14,000 Broadway performances at the Majestic Theatre.
