Commuters in Rockland and Westchester may soon have another option for heading into New York City.
According to officials, the proposal calls for ferry service from Haverstraw to Yonkers and then on to lower Manhattan as soon as this summer. Right now, many commuters leaving from Haverstraw take the ferry to Ossining and then a train into the city.
There is no official word on prices, but the Rockland County Department of Public Transportation estimates the direct ferry ride would cost about $450 a month for people leaving from Haverstraw, which is a lot more than the current commute.
So far, two companies have bid on the contract to provide the ferry service.
