The FBI is joining the state police in an investigation of a suspicious package found in Somers Wednesday.
The package was found by a town employee on a bench on the North County Trailway, just east of Mahopac Avenue. According to Sergeant James Kranik of the New York State Police Department, the package contained a white gelatin substance in a zip lock bag along with a general threat to New York City.
Kranik says initial tests on the material in the package showed it was not dangerous. However, the package has been sent to a state police crime lab for further tests. Anyone with information is asked to contact the New York State Police Department at 914-769-2600.
