A fast-moving fire in Greenburgh left nearly two dozen people homeless Wednesday.

Firefighters responding to Beech Street saw flames on the second floor. Officials say the fire burst out on the first floor underneath the working firefighters. Neighboring homes were also sprayed with water until the fire was contained. White Plains and Hartsdale fire departments provided mutual aid and the fire was brought under control in about 90 minutes.

No firefighters or civilians were injured in the fire. The Red Cross is providing food, clothing and shelter to residents who cannot return because of the intense fire damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
