Family looks for new home for disabled daughter
A Pelham family is looking for a new home for their disabled daughter whose current residence is about to shut down.
The New Hampshire facility where Dena Gallichio has lived for the past decade will be closing next week. The 24-year-old's mother, Toni-Ann Varvaro, is now left with two untenable choices.
Varvaro says her daughter, who has behavioral issues, can move to a home on the New York-Canadian border or go back home with her. She says that if Gallichio does go back home, she will not be successful in caring for her daughter.
She says the home near Canada is also unfavorable since it is in an area where mostly men live, and she does not want to risk her safety.
Gallichio's family has requested an extension that would allow them to leave her in New Hampshire for a few more days, buying them time to find a third option.
The family is still waiting to hear whether their request for an extension will be granted.
