Family buries Yonkers baby allegedly killed by dad
Relatives bid a tearful farewell Wednesday in Peekskill to a 1-year-old Yonkers girl whose life was cut short, allegedly at her father's hands.
Heaven Bolton died last Thursday, one day after her first birthday. The child's mother, 19-year-old Monique Peterson, was near inconsolable at the service.
Tears mixed with anger outside the Jeremiah Edwards Funeral Home when someone yelled out the word "evil," referring to the senseless loss of the baby girl.
Heaven's accused killer, her father, appeared in a Yonkers courtroom for a hearing in the case on the same day as his daughter's funeral. Darryl Bolton, 22, is being held without bail at the Westchester County Jail.
Bolton, who faces murder charges in the case, has a long criminal record. He has been convicted of assault four times and has a weapons charge pending against him.
According to authorities, Bolton severely beat Heaven while watching her at a Yonkers apartment. Police said the fatal incident wasn't the first time Heaven had been physically abused.
The baby suffered internal injuries and broken bones.
