Falling tree kills New Rochelle man
A New Rochelle man was killed after a 100-foot tree crashed down on his car Wednesday.
Police say 52-year-old Patrick Emenike was pulling out of his driveway on Tall Spruce Loop when two trees came crashing down at the same time. One tree hit his house, the other falling on his car, taking his life in the process. Family members say they believe he died on impact, but emergency workers took Emenike to Sound Shore Medical Center where doctors tried their best to revive him.
Also in New Rochelle, 60 mile per hour winds toppled a tree onto a police cruiser. Officer Frank Giardano, who was sitting in the driver's seat, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx in serious condition.
