A sea of firefighters and police officers stood in silence outside St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan Tuesday to pay tribute to fallen FDNY firefighter Michael Davidson.
Fire officials say Davidson, a 15-year veteran of the FDNY and a married father of four, was on the front line of a five-alarm fire, which broke out in the basement of a Harlem building on Friday.
The 37-year-old was remembered for his bravery and also as a leader in his firehouse.
"He demonstrated the unwavering dedication to duty that would make both senior members of his firehouse and his officers stand up and take notice," said Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro.
The former Iona College student is survived by his wife, Eileen, and their four young children -- ages 7, 6, 3 and 1.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
