An explosives expert says the key to solving who is behind the potentially lethal packages that were sent to the press and high-profile Democrats is to find something uniquely traceable.
Val Romero, of New Mexico Tech, has helped solve some of the country’s most notorious bombings.
He spoke to News 12 by phone Wednesday afternoon to weigh in on what’s next.
Romero says the key is tracking down, even down to a molecular level, something uniquely traceable to a person or location, just like investigators found after the Boston Marathon bombing.
“Pieces of the pressure cooker were found, the make and model of the pressure cooker was identified, and then you know where those pressure cookers were sold," he says.
While the technical challenges can be daunting in an investigation of this scale, Romero says eventually the answers will come out.
