Threats made against schools via social media have increased in the Hudson Valley, according to experts.
About half of the threats since the Parkland shooting have been made online. Experts say part of the problem is the ease of using social media and because laws and policies are not keeping up with the times.
"We have to be aware of them and that is really the crux of the problem," says Sal Lifrieri, CEO of Protective Countermeasures. "To try and get in front of it before we wind up responding to a threat."
Lifrieri says parents can play a big role in helping deter social media threats.
"You want to get in front of these situations before they occur," he says. "You don't want to meet on the day that the threat has been made."
